📄Why ME ID Needs Blockchain
Blockchain possesses the characteristic of immutability, which can establish a secure trust structure for the holders, issuers, and verifiers of Self-sovereign identities. Moreover, blockchain is a public and transparent distributed ledger, meaning the information stored is open and transparent.

ME ID is a personal sovereign identity system provided for global users, designed to meet the requirements of privacy protection, high performance, and high throughput. Therefore, we adopt a more scientific implementation when creating DIDs and verifiable credentials. We have improved upon the architecture and functional implementation of excellent digital identity solutions such as Polygon ID[1] and KILT[2], to establish an identity system design that aligns with ME ID. The ME ID Protocol utilizes ME Network as its supporting underlying network.
With the support of the ME Network blockchain, ME ID has achieved the following features:
Issuer/Holder Registration on Chain: The registration information (DID Document) of Issuers and Holders is recorded on the ME Network, creating an on-chain DID. The public key information provided by the Holder at the time of registration facilitates on-chain verification, ensuring the authenticity and validity of identities.
VC Hash Root on Chain: Since VCs contain private information that is not suitable for public disclosure and may occupy a significant amount of storage space, ME ID opts to place the VC Hash root on the blockchain. This approach protects user privacy while providing a means to verify VCs.
VC/SBT Status on Chain: The status of VCs and SBTs is recorded on the ME Network, enabling traceability of identity and credentials and ensuring that verifiers can access the latest identity status.
SBT Issuance on Chain: Once SBT information is on the blockchain, the entire ME Network can verify and confirm the authenticity of identities. This helps to build a trustworthy digital identity system.
Supports ME DAO Governance and Voting Management: The ME ID system is supported by ME DAO, implementing autonomous governance and voting management of the identity system. This allows the community to participate in decision-making collectively, driving the system's continuous development and upgrade.
